About OSi

Our History

Our story dates back to the COVID-19 pandemic era when the authorities in Nigeria abruptly announced the closure of schools across the federation without providing an alternative for remote and distance learning. Upon realising the implication of the closure, our founders responded by setting up a website for training Nigerians across five thematic areas by leveraging Google Applied Digital Skills Curriculum. The training provided by OpenSchool includes: Teach from Anywhere; Learn from Anywhere; Work from Anywhere; Getting Started With an Online Business and Job Preparedness and Career Exploration. So far, the team has graduated its first and second cohorts of students using an asynchronous approach.

In addition to training over 300 students, OpenSchool conducted webinars to help policymakers, educators, and school proprietors discover resources for teaching online and understand how to transition to hybrid learning. Two of the highly attended webinars are:

During the pandemic, our website serves as an information hub for educators to learn tips, tricks and best practices on how to teach remotely from home. Additionally, the site serves as a one-stop-shop for teachers, parents and guardians to access additional resources, updates, and support on pedagogy, teaching resources, instructional materials and free learning management tools.

OSi Mission

Our mission is to ensure that educators and students in the country have access to the best sets of technology, tools, tips and techniques for teaching and learning effectively.

Here at OpenSchool Initiative, we understand that technology on the global scene continues to develop at a rapid pace, whereas its adoption in the nation’s education sector lags. We work to facilitate the provision and adoption of needed technology that delivers new educational opportunities for educators, thereby transforming education at all age levels in the country.
